Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse was left 'shaken but uninjured' after he was involved in a crash with a

police car, the club said on Saturday. The 23-year-old Frenchman was driving to training in his

black Dodge 4x4 when it was in collision with a police car in the Childwall area of Liverpool. The

police car, which had its flashing lights and sirens on, was attending the scene of a hit-and-run

accident. A spokesman for Merseyside Police said Cisse suffered slight rib injuries but refused

hospital treatment.

Alonso : Gerrard has everything

Xabi Alonso is confident he can form a powerful midfield partnership with skipper Steven Gerrard - starting this weekend at Bolton.
Alonso is set to make his first appearance for the Reds since signing from Real Sociedad and he can't wait to play his first match alongside the club's inspirational captain.

"Steven's level is very high, he is a fine footballer. I have seen two matches here and he has everything," he said.

"He has a fine long pass, and a good short game and he gets into positions to shoot from all angles. I would be proud to play alongside him.

"We can become a partnership, we both have things that are similar but also some differences in style which will make us a good pairing.

"I can attack and defend, but I can achieve a balance to learn to blend with a team-mate like Steven, I have been very impressed with his performances in the two games I have seen. He is a strong, competitive player and also an inspiration to those around him.

"He can dominate play and is forceful and strong. We will work together well, I know that."

Garcia : I won't let fans down

New Liverpool star Luis Garcia claims that he can handle the pressure of following in Michael Owen's footsteps and pulling on the famous No.10 shirt at Anfield.
Michael Owen famously wore the No.10 shirt when he won the Reds the FA Cup final in 2001 and Garcia believes he won't let the Kop down now he's taken over the shirt.

"I like putting pressure on myself and realise the number 10 shirt has a special meaning for people around Liverpool as great players have worn it," reveals Garcia. "I mustn't let those players down and I see wearing it as a challenge. When I was at Barcelona I went on loan to Tenerife and scored 16 goals when Benitez was coach and he was the first manager who really gave me my confidence."

Gerrard on those Chelsea rumours...

"It was basically down to the last couple of seasons at Liverpool. They weren't good enough, for me personally or for the club. I was frustrated, being out of the title race by January or February. That's not what the club want to be involved in and not what I want to be involved in. Everyone linked me with Chelsea and assumed that was where I was going but to be honest there were three or four good clubs knocking on my agent's door. It wasn't a case of definitely going to Chelsea if I did leave, it was a case of sitting down and discussing the possibility of me moving to a different club."

Gerrard on Rafael Benitez...

"I've worked with him now for about six weeks and I've been very impressed. Tactically, he's very good. I'm starting to realise why he has been so successful at Valencia, with not too much money to spend.
Given a little bit of time he can have this Liverpool side maybe not playing like Valencia, because it's a completely different team, but I think we will be a team that's going to be hard to beat. I think he will definitely improve things. That was the main factor on me deciding to stay. He thinks this team are playing to 60 per cent [of their capacity] and he thinks he can take the team up a lot more. I agree with him.

"We've got to take the challenge on. We've got to improve by that 30 or 40 per cent the manager's talking about and see where that takes us. It's down to us to improve and get among them. That's our aim for the season. I don't think this manager's going to wait around, take things slowly and try to make this team better over, say, two years. He wants improvement now. He wants to start winning football matches now. That's good enough for me."

Gerrard on Michael Owen...

"I'll be honest with you, I was disappointed when Michael left. He's a great friend of mine, I love playing with him. I know his runs inside-out and I've had a good relationship with him at Liverpool and with England for years. When I heard he was going I was shocked. I was the same as any Liverpool fan - really gutted. But I do understand the situation the club were in, with Michael only having a year left on his contract. Everyone knows what happened with Steve McManaman and the club don't want situations like that to happen again. I pick the papers up now and see him [Owen] in the Real Madrid kit and think: 'No, that's not right. What's he doing? When's he coming back?'"
